Radar Mechanic in Royal Air Force, 1950 - 1953 . The Bendix GCA equipment contained nearly 600 thermionic valves, plus
magnetrons and klystrons. The transistor hadn't been invented, and came to public knowledge in the early 1950s. Integrated circuits
were developed later, in the late 1950s. The Bendix used 10cm radar for handling aircraft up to 30 miles away, and precision 3cm
radar for the "talkdown" to within a quarter mile of the runway and at the correct height for landing, i.e. within sight of the pilot, who then

Designed the control system for the world's first real-time on-line banking system. Sadly, in the late 1960s only 35 bank branches
could be handled by the system because both the main frame computers and the communication lines were too slow to handle more.
